Matailda! By Roald Dahl (Age 7-10)

Course Details

This is a 5 day virtual camp that meets daily for a one-hour session, and is aimed at children aged 7-10.

This camp is designed to take a closer look at the world’s number 1 storyteller Roald Dahl and some of the marvellous worlds he has created.

In this course, we will focus on the most amazing, the most fantastic and the most extraordinary magical girl Matilda, her chocolate cake eating friend Bruce and how they get one over on the most horrible horrific headteacher ever seen Ms Trunchbull.

All are welcome; whether you've read the book, seen the films, or simply want to start reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

We will spend time diving deep into the marvellous world of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, exploring some of Roald Dahl’s best loved characters, as well as creating our own ‘dahlicious’ descriptions alongside it.

So, whether you are an Oompa Lumpa super fan or new to Roald Dahl, now is the time to get lost in the marvellous world of Roald Dahl!

Meet Sophie!

I am a fully qualified primary teacher. I undertook my PGCE with Teach First back in 2015. Since then, alongside my teaching, I have tutored children both in and out of school for a range of purposes - such as SATS, 11+ and independent schools entrance examinations. I have taught the full breadth of years from Yr1 through to Yr6, but the majority of my experience has been in KS2. Before teaching, I was awarded a BA (hons) classical civilisation degree from the University of Warwick. I am currently a curriculum leader at my school, and am also currently the art and music curriculum leader – I have always had a love of the arts. Previously I was also the history, geography and RE curriculum leader.

My classes have always included a high percentage of children with additional needs; I pride myself in always taking the time and effort, whether for my school class or my tutees, to make my lessons meet the needs of each individual child. I have very high expectations for my students, but I also firmly believe that learning should be fun!

In my spare time I love to be active; you’ll find me out running, at a yoga class or up a climbing wall. I am also very creative and love brushing up on my art skills at home, before sharing them in the classroom. I am also passionate about languages, and am currently learning Spanish.
