James is a fully qualified primary teacher and has offered private tuition and mentoring experiences, in particular to students with learning support needs including ASD and behavioural difficulties. During these sessions he has used Makaton and ABA in his intervention plans. For the past three years James has taught in an outstanding primary school and he has recently begun a new teaching post teaching Year 6 pupils with responsibility for PE.
James is passionate about mathematics and literacy at the primary level, including the ability to teach reading recovery and English as an additional language. Beyond his teaching experience, James has a very keen interest in history, theology and critical thinking. He is a tutor who is skilled in supporting students with 13+ entrance assessments and interview preparation. His approach to supporting students’ learning is based on their individual needs- filling gaps and supporting them to progress using their institution’s strategies and policies. James uses humour to build a professional working relationship, as he believes this helps break down learning and engage his students on the tasks at hand.
As a lifelong learner, James enjoys reading – in particular non-fiction. He enjoys keeping fit by cycling and playing football. On the weekends he can often be found brushing up on his Master Chef skills, as he has a passion for cooking.
