After graduating from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in English literature in 2017, Poppy went on to work in the editorial department at Dorling Kindersley (an imprint of Penguin Random House which specialises in educational non-fiction). It was during her time there, that she realised her passion for education lay more in one-to-one learning. Since December 2018 she has been working as a freelance tutor and artist. Poppy is now an experienced tutor, with success across a range of subjects and ages. Poppy is confident teaching English, mathematics and reasoning from Primary up to 11+ Entrance Exams (including the London Consortium, ISEB Common Pre-tests, 7+, 8+, and school specific tests). She has successfully helped tutor students towards the following schools: Alleyns, Westminster, Kings, Dulwich College, Godolphin, Francis Holland and Eton. Beyond this, she has also had success tutoring humanities up to A level and English literature and language up to Undergraduate.
Poppy’s approach to tutoring is structured, engaged and curated around each individual student. She likes to identify key strengths, weaknesses and a student’s preferred way of learning, and then adapt her teaching style accordingly. When planning lessons, she uses her creativity to build dynamic and engaging lessons that keep the learning goals at heart – at the same time as encouraging students to develop a genuine interest in their chosen subject.
Poppy is an artist and when she is not tutoring. She spends much of her time painting and drawing from her studio in Camberwell. She paints portraits and draws illustrative artworks using ink and oil pastels. Aside from this, she also enjoys running and playing tennis. Poppy also speaks Spanish.
