Duncan is educated to MA level. He has fifteen years of teaching experience in schools and colleges, teaching students of all abilities aged eleven upwards. He has taught in sixth form colleges, mainstream comprehensives, FE colleges, as well as independent schools. The majority of his experience is at A level, but he is familiar with delivering iGCSE and key stage three history. He also has experience of tutoring successful applicants for Oxford and Cambridge.
Duncan’s personal approach to tuition is one of discussion and debate, modelled on a university tutorial. He aims to encourage certain ways of thinking that lead to clearer answers and understanding, but ultimately, he hopes to encourage the confidence of the student to express their own beliefs on history and politics.
Duncan loves to read about and discuss history and politics. He is a keen cyclist and a member of his club’s committee. He also loves country walking, both in his native lake District and elsewhere.
