A native qualified teacher who holds two different BA degrees: one in Spanish and Linguistics from the University of Southampton, and one in English from the University of Salamanca (Spain), with thirteen years teaching experience in the UK. Carmen is a supportive, resourceful and innovative teacher, who will help you to learn and develop your linguistics skills further. Carmen is also the coordinator for the gifted and talented scheme run by the MFL Department. This involves her monitoring the progress of gifted and talented pupils within the MFL department and liaising with the other departments’ coordinators of the gifted and talented scheme. She promotes the study of Spanish at Oxbridge and has prepared A-Level students for the Oxbridge Examination and has led a trip to Oxford Open Day.
On top of her duties as a classroom teacher, she organises and takes part in an array of Spanish cultural activities, namely, Spanish cinema conferences, tapas evenings, visits to flamenco shows and theatre plays for students in KS4 and KS5. Her vision is to encourage students to become not only great linguists, but also lovers of Spanish literature, culture and history who would like to pursue their Spanish studies at University level. Carmen is a Pearson-Edexcel Spanish GCSE & GCE A Level Examiner. She is also a tutor and Examiner of DELE (A1 – C2) board, as well as a content writer for This Is Language Limited.
Carmen monitors her students ́ progress by assessing them regularly and providing detailed and constructive feedback, as well as clear and achievable targets. Her experience as an Edexcel GCSE, A level and DELE examiner and moderator has given her invaluable professional knowledge, which has enabled her to understand how candidates can maximise their potential.
In her spare time Carmen enjoys reading, going to the cinema, the theatre and art galleries. She also loves dancing, swimming and travelling. Carmen also has a basic understanding of French and Italian.
