Before training to become a teacher, Alex studied English Literature to PhD level. His first proper teaching job was at a Sixth Form College in Essex, where he taught both GCSE and A level for 13 years. For the last five years, he has taught English from KS2-5 at many schools around Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire; as well as tutoring students online, in small groups, or one to one.
Alex constantly adapts his teaching style to the student or students he is teaching. He believes that for teaching to be effective, it is important to identify what motivates and inspires individual students to fulfil their potential. Alex also focuses on helping students make links between information from different subject areas, and to engage with ideas in a way that encourages critical thinking.
As well as his passion for teaching, Alex loves reading and writing fiction, and he has directed several amateur dramatic productions. He is also very interested in history, philosophy and psychology.
